Associated Press photographer David Guttenfelder not only documents the war in Afghanistan with traditional digital cameras, he also used an iPhone camera, carried in his flak jacket pocket, coupled with a Polaroid film filter application to photograph the daily lives of Marines, Afghan soldiers and fellow journalists during the military offensive in Marjah, Afghanistan.
A few examples.

“Weetstraw.com draws in users based on familiar subjects, and creates connections to ideas from various contexts. the purpose of the site is to introduce the user to new possibilities of visual associations, through the common and the obscure.”
That’s what the about section tells us. But basically it’s a bunch of ultracool vintage photography sets.

What a nice initiative! We Heart It lets you create an online album with your favorite images and videos. At the same time you can see what other people are adding to their own hearts and save it on yours to grow your collection.
Way better than fffound. Check out my hearts!

I’m a bicycle lover. And that’s why I’d like to post about it. Unfortunately I don’t do as many kilometers on my bike as I would like, but it’s just that I am in love with the sport and with the design of the material. Being born in the country of Flandriens has something to do with that.
The fact we had Merckx however doesn’t mean that the world isn’t catching up with Belgium as a cycling country. Here’s some proof (this has nothing to do with pro-riding offcourse, but it’s a dang cool movie nonetheless):
And I am particularly fond of these guys, because they passionately care for design. They manage to turn everything they create into unique design objects.

Also worth a heads up is Kristof Ramon, a photographer we work with at Absoluut. His passion for the Belgian cycling scene in unheard of. Plus, his pictures are pretty nice too. Here’s former Danish champ Nicki Sörensen who won stage 12 in the 2009 Tour de France, shot by Kristof.

It’s been a while since I posted something but I figured it was time I kept up. So this is one to begin with. One of my colleagues sent this link today and it quite blew my mind. The photographs are brilliant as well.
It’s about filming in the Giant Crystal Cave for ‘How Earth Made Us’. The caves are one of the deadliest places on the planet. Watch a preview of the Crystal Cave sequence here.
It’s 50oC and has a humidity of 100%, less than a hundred people have been inside and it’s so deadly that even with respirators and suits of ice you can only survive for 20 minutes before your body starts to fail. It’s the nearest thing to visiting another planet – it’s going deep inside our own.

Last saturday we celebrated my girlfriend’s (soon to be my wife) birthday. After a whole lot of drinking and laughing she was buried under a pile of gifts from our friends. I gave her a printed canvas, based on a photo of us. It was taken in Portugal, when we were on a surfing-vacation, which was great.

My friend and collegue over at Absoluut, Louis Ingelaere, entered the blogosphere! He speaks pixel, dpi & 2.0. He creates from concept to design on the web, in print and especially social media. His blog varies in topics from advertising over social media, to communication in general. Holla!
